spring cleaning

We all have chores to do, and one of them is cleaning the carpet in your home. As tedious and backbreaking as this gets, it’s very important to maintain a healthy, clean home. At the very minimum, carpets and floors should be vacuumed on a weekly basis. In addition to that almost universal rule, here’s some more advice to elevate your home cleaning knowledge.

Besides the routine vacuuming, it is imperative that any spots and stains are cleaned up as SOON as they catch your eye. Any spillage of liquids will also need immediate attention.

It’s always in the best of habits to keep stain removers in your home, but, it is often the case that a spill occurs right when you have ran out, or the stain/spot remover is expired. Lucky for you, there are household items that can be used for cleaning stains!

If you, or someone else, happens to spill something on the carpet, it is vital to quickly soak up any drop of excess liquid that you can with your most absorbent cloth. After, you can apply a small amount of white vinegar. This process will help in lifting the stain, as well as mask the odor. Better yet, you keep a mix of white vinegar and water handy in your home to use it when needed.

Enjoying a romantic night with red wine, only to spill it on your carpet? Look at the previous cleaning procedure and take care of the stain right away. In addition, you should incorporate a small amount of carpet shampoo and/or detergent to make things easier. Then, just sponge the area to lift off most or all of the stain, and then sponge it clean again with warm water. Finally, soak up the excess water with an absorbent cloth.

In the case of a blood stain, there are home remedies for those as well. First, remove most of it with an absorbent towel. Use a small amount of detergent, warm water, take a small brush (like an old toothbrush) to brush out the stain. The area should then be rinsed and dried, and after it is dry, just add ammonia and leave it for 10 minutes. After all of that, just clean it with water and detergent once more, and dry it with an absorbent cloth.

This additional great home cleaning tip is for pet lovers. Use a generous amount of baking soda to sprinkle over pet areas to remove most or all of the odor. Cover the carpet with powder about once a month, and leave it there over night, then vacuum it in the morning.
